The La Plata Prosecutor's Office has released the arguments supporting the detention of Julio Cornelio Guerra Torres, the Peruvian citizen accused of running over and causing the death of 18-year-old Eugenia Carril, who was struck in Villa Elvira. According to the arrest warrant accessed by the Argentine News Agency, prosecutor Fernando Padovan, head of UFI 12 of La Plata, built an accusatory hypothesis based on the imprudent driving of the accused and his subsequent flight without attending to the victim. The young woman's relatives continue to demand justice and a full clarification of what happened. In his ruling, Padovan emphasized the existence of concrete procedural risks, paying special attention to the conduct after the fact. He stated that the flight, combined with imprudent driving, shows “a total disregard for the protected legal asset” and constitutes a legally disapproved action whose risk was not neutralized by the accused. According to the accusation, the driver lost control of the vehicle “despite nothing impeding him, except his recklessness and lack of care,” and hit the young woman, who could not warn of the maneuver. The prosecutor maintains that the sequence of events is supported by footage from private cameras.
